Vacation Stories

Today we will use the iPads to create our vacation story. We will find our vacation place on the Google Earth app and save a screenshot to include in our book. We will use Drawing Pad app to illustrate pages and also take a picture with the camera of any photos we have brought in. The book will be assembled in Book Creator. We will add our voices and save as an ebook. Below is a sample without voiceovers.

MesoAmerican PowerPoint

Today you will continue researching and also gather pictures for your chosen Meso-American culture Powerpoint presentation.
Use the links at the Heights Website to gather information about your particular culture and cultural universal. Over the next couple of weeks you and your partner will create 8-10 slides with the information to form a comprehensive slideshow for your civilization. For the first slide of your show, create a Wordle with words that represent your civilization. Below is a sample of one culture and one cultural universal.

Gather pictures from the following sites:

Ellis Island Tour

Using the iPads, you will learn about Ellis Island, the place where over 12 million immigrants passed through in search of a better life. The Interactive Ellis Island Tour is rich in audio files and photographs. Use the document Ellis Island Tour to take notes while you read each web page carefully and click on the audio and photo links. Click on the picture of the Statue of Liberty to take you to the website. If you are done early watch the Brainpop movie on immigration and take the graded quiz.

Explorer Smashup

We will begin our explorer projects using the iPads. Use the Explorer Wiki Resources to help you.
1. Research your explorer and include the following information:

a. Why he explored
b. Who sponsored him
c. Where he traveled
d. How did he treat the Native people
e. What was accomplishments

2. Write the script and the bibliography.

3. Gather public domain images or creative common images for your script and save to the Camera Roll.

We will Use Explain Everything for your bibliography, Drawing Pad to create a green screen, Tellagami for your avatar speaking your script, and Green Screen to put your images and avatar together. See my sample below.

Explorer Wiki

Your research is nearing completion and today you will create a map in Google Maps of the explorers’ routes. There are four maps, saved in Google maps, one for each of the countries that sponsored the explorers. Work in your country groups to create a map of each countries exploration. Include a placemark for the beginning and end points of the exploration and use the line tool to draw a line mapping out the route.

Explorer Glogs

Today we will learn how to create a digital poster for your explorer research using GlogsterEdu. Include the following information
â—‹ Why explored
â—‹ Who sponsored him
â—‹ Where did he go (map)
â—‹ How did he treat the native people
â—‹ Did he accomplish his goals?
â—‹ If not, what did he contribute to the world’s knowledge
â—‹ What are the effects of his contributions in today’s world?

Use the resources page on the Explorers wiki to find a picture of your explorer and a map of his route.

Below is a sample project.

Landform Flipbook

Today you will use Google Earth to find four examples of landforms. Save the images in a new folder called Landforms. Don’t forget to save a picture of the Earth for your title slide. We will create a flipbook by inserting the images and definitions for each landform into PowerPoint and printing them two slides to a page.

Meet The Daggetts

Go back in time and investigate the daily lives of the Daggetts, a family from colonial Connecticut. During your travels, look for clues from Samuel Daggett’s actual account book, newspapers and illustrations from the 1700s to “uncover” the answers to all 7 questions about the Daggetts’ world. Click the picture below to go to the website.

MesoAmerican Powerpoint Presentations

Today you will research the cultural elements of the Maya, Incas, and Aztecs. Use the links at the Heights Website to gather information about your particular culture and cultural universal. Over the next couple of weeks you will create 2-3 slides with the information, which will be combined with other members of your group to form a comprehensive slideshow of each of the civilizations. MesoAmerican Powerpoint Presentations

You have completed your research on the cultural elements of the Maya, Incas, and Aztecs by using the links at the Heights Website. Now it’s time to work in groups to create a comprehensive Powerpoint slideshow of each of the civilizations. For the first slide of your show, create a Wordle with words that represent your civilization. Below is a sample of one culture and one cultural universal.

Revolutionary War Puppet

Today you will type into Microsoft Word the information that you will use on the panels of your Revolutionary War puppet. Use the template in the group folder to type in your information. Open a new template for each of the areas of research. You will center the title for each panel and create a bulleted list for the information.

Famous African-American Woman Slideshow

Today you will learn how to use Powerpoint to create a slideshow presentation of the famous African-American woman that you have researched. You will learn how to gather and insert pictures, create bulleted lists, animate text, and add slide transitions. Your Powerpoint should include 4-5 slides: a title slide, 1 slide on obstacles which needed to be overcome, 1-2 on Achievements/Contributions, and one on Attributes of the individual. Use the storyboard that you completed in the classroom to guide you.

Cool Country Postcards

This week you will begin to create a giant postcard based upon the cool country that you have been researching. We will use two slides in Powerpoint for your postcard. You will find a flag and a map of the country for the Slide 1, the outside of the card. For Slide 2, the reverse side of the card, you will insert an image of a postage stamp from the country and write a friendly letter incorporating some of the fast facts that you researched. We will print the slides and gluestick them to card stock creating an 8.5″x11″ postcard.

Find the map and flag by clicking below.

Landform Slideshow

Today you will begin work on your Landform Powerpoint slideshow. You will be using Google Earth, Powerpoint, and the two Internet sites below for the project. You may choose three landforms to include in your show. Each slide must include a picture of the landform from Google Earth, a textbox identifying the location and name of the particular landform, and a sound button which includes your recording of the definition of the landform form. Create a title page using Word Art for the title and your name. I have created a sample of one slide below.
