Black History Month
February is Black History month! You will research a famous African-American in library, then write a short script about the field he/she is famous for, the time period he/she lived, and the reason why he/she is famous. You will also get a short video of the individual if it is available. We will use the iPads and SketchbookX to draw a portrait of the individual. Next we will bring the portrait into Yakit and record the script. Finally, we will create a gallery of the pictures in the rotunda with an augmented reality component which will display your Yakit and the video creation.
Continent Project
We will begin a project for your study of the continents. First you will research in the library all about your chosen continent. Next you will create a movie with your information, using the app Shadow Puppet, adding pictures and voice over.

You have seen movie trailers from studios which advertise their movies. Now it’s your turn to create a book trailer, in iMovie, for a book you love! We will begin by exploring and watching book trailers created by other students and teachers.

Do You Want To Be My Friend?
Today we will begin to work on our class movie based on the book Do You Want To Be My Friend? by Eric Carle. Each student will be either the mouse or one of the animals.
- Read the book in class then decide how the animals might answer the mouse if they could talk.
- Mice-Practice your line, then we will use the green screen to shoot you saying your part. Ms. Mellman will make mouse ears for us.
- Animals- Practice your part, then we will use YakitKids to make the animals talk.
- We will then use the Green Screen app to put it all together.
- Finally, we will bring it into iMovie to add music and sound effect
Alliteration at the Zoo
After studying poetry and figures of speech, specifically alliteration, create an alliteration sentence about an animal you might find in the zoo. Next, use the app Yakit Kids to import your picture and then voice over your sentence. All the short movies will be combined into a class movie, Alliteration at the Zoo.

William Wegman’s Dogs
Now that you examined the work of photographer William Wegman and his Weimaraner dogs, it’s time to create your own dog portrait in art, using water colors. Using a green screen, the apps Superimpose and SketchbookX, we’ll merge your painting with a photo of you to create an new piece of art on the iPad. We’ll use augmented reality to display your work at the art show.

QR Measurement Hunt
Grab your measuring devices, an iPad and the QR code sheet! Today you will work together in six groups to find six objects in our school. When you find each object, estimate and then measure each object. The QR codes will reveal the object and give you directions as to which measurement you will make.

Today in Art we will begin our Aliens at Heights project. First we will use our iPads to take a picture of a location at Heights. Next we will create an animated alien in the app Do Ink and add our photo of a place at school. We will put all the aliens invading our school together in a movie which will be shown at the annual Art Show!

Let’s create a snowflake smashup. Today we will use the iPads to create and animate snowflakes swirling and falling using the app Do Ink. Next you will use the video camera on the iPad to film yourself reciting your haiku. Finally, we will combine the two videos into a movie using the app Green Screen. Geometry in the Real World
Today Mrs. Stewart’s and Ms. O’Brien’s class will work collaboratively in creating a geometry book using the iPads. You will work with your learning buddy to
- Travel around the school in search of geometric shapes that can be found in everyday items and photograph them using your iPad.
- Fill out the storyboard for your book including the name of the shape and the properties of the shape.
- Use Explain Everything to put together your book, outlining the shape in your photograph and recording your script onto each of the pages, complete with annotations.

Wish for the World
You have worked in Art to create your own four letter wish for the world based upon the work of pop artist Robert Indiana, most famous for his LOVE painting and sculpture. Today we will work in the art room and use the iPads to take a picture of your Wish for the World artwork. We’ll use Wordfoto to incorporate your writing into the drawing.
Tar Beach
After reading the book Tar Beach by Faith Ringgold, you drew and painted a multi-layered city in Art. Take a picture of your cityscape with your iPad. Next you will draw yourself in a flying position in the app SketchbookX. Using the Keynote app, you will animate yourself flying over your imported city, just as the main character does in the book. Download the figure template here. When you are done upload the finished product to Google Drive and share it with me.

Giraffes Can’t Dance
After reading the book Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andred, in Art, you drew a giraffe concentrating on big shapes. You colored the giraffes using yellow or orange then added spots and marks using a brown or black marker, then cut out your creation. Next you created the background, using a double loaded brush technique and an etching technique for the grass. To add a technology component to the project, you will use the animation app Doink to make your giraffe dance. Next we will video you describing what you like about the project. We will create an Augmented Reality trigger from your original artwork. Patrons of the annual Art Show will be able to scan your giraffe to view the animation and video. Geometry Scavenger Hunt
Today we will use the iPads to take pictures of geometry shapes in the real world- our classroom. We will use the app Pic Collage to create a collage of our shapes. Use the pencil tool to outline the shape and then label it with the text tool. We’ll save it and put everyone’s together into a Shape Book.

Cut Snowflakes Designed on an iPad
Today you will learn all about symmetry, both bilateral and radial, to design a snowflake on the iPad using My Flake. Once you are happy with your design, you will transfer the cut lines to your paper and create a beautiful tangible version of your digital design. Save your digital design to the Camera roll, too so we can display both at the Art Show.

You will work in groups to learn about the climate, population, native people, economy, land and waterway, natural resources, animals and plants of a USA region. Below are the steps you must complete to create a movie which will serve as a teaching tool for all the groups.

- Use the storyboard guide to create a script based upon your research.
